BOL announces sale of bills valued at 5 trillion kip

Bills worth 5 trillion kip issued by the Bank of the Lao PDR (BOL) will go on sale at nine assigned banks in Laos, according to an announcement posted on the bank’s website on June 13.
BOL, as the Lao central bank, urges members of the public, individuals and entities to strongly consider buying the bills, which will be on sale starting on June 15.
The purpose of the sale of the bank bills, which are valued in kip, is to enable members of the public to invest in securities and generate a safe and great profit, as well as supporting the government’s monetary policy and contributing to efforts to stabilise the value of the kip.
In addition, the issuing of the bills will help the government to forge ahead with socio-economic development and tackle its economic, financial and currency problems.
The bank bills will be on sale at BCEL, Lao Development Bank (LDB), Agriculture Promotion Bank (APB), Joint Development Bank (JDB), Phongsavanh Bank, ST Bank, BIC Bank, Lao-Viet Joint Venture Bank, and ICBC Bank.
The BOL-generated bills will be issued electronically and will be scripless, and purchasers will receive a BOL Bill Certificate.
The bills have a tenor of six months and may not be transferred from one person to another. The par value begins at 100,000 kip per unit. Individuals can buy bills to a maximum value of 2 billion kip, while a legal entity such as a company can buy bills up to a maximum worth of 10 billion kip.
With an interest of 20 percent per year, the payment of interest and capital will be arranged at the maturity date.
Eligible buyers include Lao and foreign individuals and entities that have been resident or operational in Laos for at least one year.
Commercial banks and deposit-taking financial institutions that operate businesses in Laos are not allowed to buy the bank bills.
The purchase of BOL bills will commence on June 15 at various banks across the country as authorised agents of the central bank, during normal working hours.
