Lao film ‘The Long Walk’ to stream on Netflix Thailand

“The Long Walk” directed by Mattie Do will be the first Lao film to be streamed on Netflix Thailand later this month.
The film will be available on the streaming service from August 15 to give Thai audiences a taste of Lao cinema. Lao audiences can also watch the movie on the platform.
Ms Do, a Lao-American director who also directed the first Lao horror film, said she appreciated her film being available to Thai audiences on a well-known platform such as Netflix.
“The Long Walk” (“Bor Mi Vanh Chark”) is a science fiction drama that premiered in the Giornate degli Autori section of the 76th Venice International Film Festival in 2019.
The film was officially released in Laos in February 2021 with English subtitles.
“I want to believe. For the Lao people they’re real. They’re present daily. They’re tangible and they’re here, even if we can’t see them, or feel them,” Ms Do said while talking about the film earlier.
Ms Do also directed the Lao films “Chanthaly” (2012) and “Dearest Sister” (2016). “The Long Walk” is also available on Western streaming platforms, including Apple TV, Amazon and Shudder.
Noutnapha Soydala, who is part of the cast of “The Long Walk”, posted a message on her Facebook page to express her surprise and happiness at the film being streamed on Netflix. She said more Lao films should be available on Netflix.
She said that before acting in this film, she read the script and loved it, and this led to her decision to do the movie. “The production team and the performers paid a lot of attention to making a good film, and I am very happy with it,” she said.
