National Olympic Committee of Laos appoints new managing body

The National Olympic Committee of Laos has appointed a new eight-member managing body to oversee the development of Lao sports over the next three years until 2025.
The new board of management comprises a new President of the Committee, who is the Minister of Education and Sports, Associate Prof. Dr Phout Simmalavong, together with other senior government officials.
Dr Phout praised the outgoing governing body and their success in promoting sports in Laos and building relations with other countries.
The Committee would work with sports federations and other entities to further develop Lao sports and forge closer links with international organisations, he said.
The new governing body will devise a strategy for the development of sports and will partner with educational, cultural and sporting groups to build sports in terms of both quantity and quality, at every level, in Vientiane and the provinces.
The Committee will continue to work with the International Olympic Committee and other organisations in various countries.
The Committee was previously led by its former President, Mrs Sengdeuane Lachanthaboun, together with other senior government officials.
On Friday, the General Assembly of the 7th Executive Committee of the National Olympic Committee of Laos for 2017-2021 took place.
Participants heard a report on the successes achieved in the past five years, which included stronger management and closer cooperation with the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic Committee of Asian, which provided scholarships for National Olympic Committee of Laos officials to upgrade their skills to international levels, improve the skills of sports trainers, and strengthen other areas of work.
The Committee was able to source scholarships and sponsorships to enable athletes to compete at the SEA Games, Asian Games, and Olympic Games.
The Lao Brewery Company has been a major sponsor of sports in Laos and together with FBT Sports has provided sports kits and other items for competitors.
The General Assembly on Friday was attended by the Minister of Education and Sports, Associate Prof. Dr Phout Simmalavong, deputy minister, senior Committee officials, and officials from sports federations.
