Laos’ top female runner takes gold in Golden Triangle half marathon

Over 500 runners from seven countries including Laos took part in the Golden Triangle 2nd Half Marathon in Tonpheung district, Bokeo province on Sunday, with Laos’ top female runner, Lodkeo Inthakoumman, winning the gold medal in the women’s 21km event.
The half marathon was held to mark International Day against Drug Abuse on June 26, support the government’s National Agenda on tackling Drug Problems, and mark the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone.
Runners came from China, Myanmar, Thailand, the Philippines, USA, the Netherlands and host country Laos.
There were 8km races in the U-15 and U-45 categories, and a 21km race for general runners. There were 20 prizes up for grabs, worth more than 488 million kip.

In addition to the six categories of competition, there were walks for health, with the competition points being between the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone and Bokeo International Airport.
The women’s 21km half marathon winner Ms Lodkeo Inthakoumman ran the race in 1 hour, 25 minutes and 5 seconds, taking a gold medal and prize money of 106 million kip.
In second place was Ms Nattaya from Thailand with a time of 1 hour, 29 minutes and 12 seconds, winning a medal and prize money of 64 million kip. The third and fourth placed runners came from Thailand, with third place winning a medal and prize money of 42 million kip, and fourth place getting a medal and prize money of 21 million kip.
In the men’s 21km half marathon, the winner was Mr Sanxay, a Thai team runner from Chiang Rai province, who won with a time of 1 hour, 11 minutes and 54 seconds. He received a medal and prize money of 106 million kip. The second, third and fourth placed runners in the general men’s category were awarded the same prizes as for the general women’s category.
In the women’s 8km under-15 category, the winner was Ms Boutsakorn Prawang from Thailand, with a time of 42 minutes, 17.63 seconds, who received a medal and prize money of 5 million kip. In second place was Ms Pokhualy from Bokeo province with a time of 46 minutes and 40.24 seconds, who received a medal and prize money of 3 million kip. In third place was a runner from Bokeo province, Ms Nalor, who won a medal and prize money of 2 million kip.
The winner in the men’s 8km under-15 category was Mr Anusit from Thailand, with a time of 31 minutes and 35.33 seconds, winning a medal and prize money of 5 million kip. In second place was Mr Suliya Sananthavong from Luang Namtha province with a time of 34 minutes and 34.32 seconds, winning a medal and prize money of 3 million kip, while in third place was Mr Denpong from Thailand, who won a medal and prize money of 2 million kip.
The winner of the women’s 8km race in the U-45 (upper 45 years) age group was Ms Somkhit Keoboun from Vientiane province, who won a medal and prize money of 5 million kip. In second place was Ms Vanpheng Southichack from Laos, who won a medal and prize money of 3 million kip, and in third place was Ms Valin from Thailand, who won a medal and prize money of 2 million kip.
The men’s 8km senior category was won by Mr Khonglat from Chiang Rai, Thailand, with a medal and prize money of 5 million kip. In second place was Mr Khamphet Chanthasombath from Vientiane who received a medal and prize money of 3 million kip, and in third place was Mr Phoungeun Phommaha from the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, who received a medal and 2 million kip in prize money.
The awards were presented by the Deputy Governor of Bokeo province, Mr Kheuanphet Vongchanh, President of the Dokngiewkham Group Co., Ltd Mr Wang Erbao, and the Head of the Bokeo Special Economic Zone Management Committee.
