Lao women head to Malaysia for Billie Jean King Cup

Four female tennis players have travelled to Malaysia to compete in the Billie Jean King Cup 2022 in Kuala Lumpur, which is taking place from August 8-13.
The Lao team is in Group II, in the Asian zone, which comprises tennis teams from 10 countries and regions, including Thailand, Singapore, Iran, Laos, Maldives, Vietnam, Malaysia, China, and Pacific Oceania.
Group I comprise teams from European countries.
General Secretary of the Lao Tennis Federation, Mr Sisomphet Xayarath, said the Lao team is classed at the B level and the federation is a member of the International Tennis Federation, which means Laos is qualified to compete in the Billie Jean King Cup.
Mr Sisomphet said the objective is for the players to get experience of competition at the international level and to learn how to improve their skills on the court.
Laos is not currently ranked in the world tennis standings.
The players practised on courts in Vientiane ahead of the Cup and will compete in doubles and singles’ events at the tournament.
