Lao juniors to vie at Asian Table Tennis Championship  

The Lao junior table tennis team will compete at the 26th Asian Table Tennis Championship, to be held in Laos from September 1-6.
The Lao Table Tennis Federation will host the event at the Lao-ITECC Mall in Vientiane, under the auspices of the Asian Table Tennis Federation.
Earlier this month, the table tennis federation held a national level competition, in which junior players from many clubs in Vientiane and the provinces took part.
The competition was a good chance for young players to get some match practice and hone their skills. The event also enabled federation officials to broaden their knowledge of the game and competition rules before assisting at the championship in September.
The talented players who were selected for the championship are now training in preparation for the big event.
President of the Lao Table Tennis Federation, Mrs Sengdeuane Lachanthaboun, said the federation had been unable to hold any competitions during the Covid-19 outbreak but players had continued to practise on a regular basis.
At the end of this month, Lao table tennis players will put their skills to the test at the Asean Table Tennis Championship in Thailand, and again at the Asean University Games in Thailand in July.
The Lao team and trainers will gain useful experience from these events before competing in the Asian Table Tennis Championship on home soil.
Their next outing will be at the National Games, which take place in Xieng Khuang province on November.
Next year, the federation will build players’ skills even further, so they are able to put in a strong performance at the next edition of the SEA Games in Cambodia in May.
A Lao team also competed at the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam last month.
