Lao footballers to meet Thailand in Group B at SEA Games 

The results of the draw of countries competing in the football tournament at the 31st South-East Asian (SEA) Games in Vietnam in May was announced in Hanoi on Wednesday.
The Lao men’s team has been drawn in Group B together with Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia and Singapore.
According to the programme, Laos will face Singapore on May 5, Cambodia on May 9, Malaysia on May 11, and Thailand on May 16.
Group A in the men’s competition comprises Vietnam, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines and Timor Leste.
In the women’s football tournament, Laos has been drawn in Group B alongside Thailand, Myanmar and Singapore. The team is scheduled to play Myanmar on May 5, Singapore on May 13, and Thailand on May 15.
Group A in the women’s competition comprises Vietnam, the Philippines, Cambodia and Indonesia.
Both the Lao men’s and women’s teams are training hard in Vientiane in preparation for the games and will travel to Vietnam at the beginning of May before the football programme kicks off on May 5.
The Lao men’s football team enjoyed success in friendly matches played on home soil against Mongolia and Brunei last month, beating Brunei 3-2 and Mongolia 1-0.
The team’s head coach, Mr Michael Weiss, is working with the players to further develop their skills and fitness levels before they head for Vietnam.
The Lao squad has other recent experience of international competition after taking part in the AFF Under-23 Championship in Cambodia last month.
They also competed at the AFF Suzuki Cup 2020, which took place in Singapore in December.
The team is hopeful of being joined by Billy Ketkeophomphone, who is currently playing for a European club.
